Black Travelers Are Choosing Peace, Freedom and Solo Trips This Summer

A new survey suggests Black travelers are increasingly treating vacation as personal restoration—not merely sightseeing.
For many Black travelers, the most valuable part of a vacation may no longer be the number of attractions visited. It may be the opportunity to breathe.
A new summer travel survey from BLK found that relaxation and emotional restoration are playing a major role in how respondents approach their vacations. More than half said their primary reason for traveling was to relax and recharge.
Solo travel emerged as the most popular vacation style among respondents. More than one-third said they planned to travel alone. Nearly one in five said not having someone to travel with was their biggest obstacle. Solo travel turns that limitation into a decision: the trip can still happen.
Nearly one-third said a weekend getaway was the most realistic trip they could take this year.
The most popular domestic destinations included Las Vegas, Miami, New York City, Chicago, Atlanta and New Orleans. Jamaica led the international choices, followed by Nigeria, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Paris and Mexico.
The new Black travel lifestyle is not only about being seen in beautiful places. It is about returning home feeling more like yourself.
